Bursitis
Bursitis is a painful inflammation of the bursae—small, fluid-filled sacs that cushion bones, tendons, and muscles near joints. This condition often affects areas like the shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and heels, and is typically triggered by repetitive motions or sustained pressure on the affected joints.
Symptoms and Causes
Common symptoms of bursitis include:
Achy or stiff joints
Increased pain with movement or pressure
Swelling and redness around the affected area
The primary causes of bursitis are repetitive activities—such as throwing, kneeling, or lifting—that put strain on the bursae. Other factors can include injuries, certain medical conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes, and age, as the risk increases over time.
Diagnosis and Treatment
At Revere Health, our approach begins with a thorough physical examination to assess symptoms and determine the specific bursae affected. We may utilize imaging tests, like X-rays or MRIs, to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other conditions.
