Ryan Slater, MD

Ryan Slater, MD is originally from American Fork, Utah. His interest in sports medicine began as a three-sport athlete at American Fork High School and while attending Brigham Young University on a football scholarship. While there, he married Candace Cosgrave, a member of the BYU gymnastics team. He received his medical degree from the University of Toledo and then completed a residency in family medicine at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Slater completed his sports medicine fellowship training at the University of Notre Dame where he gained experience treating athletes from the professional level to youth sports and weekend warriors. He has experience as a team physician for numerous sports including football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, track & field, gymnastics, ballet, and weight lifting. He is proficient in musculoskeletal ultrasound and has performed thousands of ultrasound-guided injections and other procedures including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), stem cell injections, and Tenex percutaneous tenotomy.

He specializes in non-surgical treatment of orthopedic and sports related injuries, and his other medical interests included management of concussion, stress fractures, and youth overuse injuries. He is currently the head team physician at his alma-mater, American Fork High School and assists with the medical care of several other local high schools, soccer clubs, and gymnastics training centers

He and his wife have three children. In his free time, he enjoys supporting and coaching his children in their athletic and academic pursuits. He likes to travel with his family when they can fit it into their busy schedules, often to support their alma-mater, BYU. He also enjoys serving in his church and local community.
